I've been tutoring a 26 year old "kid," an inmate in a correctional facility, to improve his marginal reading skills. He loves the first in the Junkyard Dan series. As he tells me often, "this will be the first book I've ever read." I'm writing to tell Elise Leonard what a great idea she had to do the series, and how "on target" she is in the approach, humor, content and "voice" of the narrator. Beautifully done. | When I took my first look at the Junkyard Dan series I could hardly wait to share them with teachers at my school. I had spent years as a teacher trying to find reading material for my very low reading level high school students. These students were embarrassed to read the books that were at their reading level but could not read well enough to read even low level high school material. Junkyard Dan is perfect for these kids. I'm the librarian now and I bought several sets of Junkyard Dan books and workbooks to share. We are using them in ISS and in reading classes (regular and ESE). Teachers tell me their students love them and that no one minds being seen reading these books. You can expect us to order every new book Nox Press offers.
