I've been tutoring a 26 year old "kid," an inmate in a correctional facility, to improve his marginal reading skills. He loves the first in the Junkyard Dan series. As he tells me often, "this will be the first book I've ever read." I'm writing to tell Elise Leonard what a great idea she had to do the series, and how "on target" she is in the approach, humor, content and "voice" of the narrator. Beautifully done. | During open house in August the majority of the parents told me flat out, ”My child hates to read.” Virtually all of these students are now avidly reading your books. I’ve never seen anything like in all the thirty five years that I’ve taught “at risk” students!!!
